Matthew 8 31And the demons begged him, saying, "If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs." 32And he said to them, "Go." So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters.

BIBLE STUDY – KJV

1} Galatians 4:21-30 21Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?  22For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.  23But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.  24Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.  25For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.  26But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.  27For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.  28Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.  29But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.  30Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.

Allegory: “a story in which people, things and happenings have another meaning, often instructive, as in a fable” (Webster)

2} 2 Corinthians 3:7, 14-16 7But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: -- 14But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ. 15But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart. 16Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away.

Ministration of Death and Condemnation written and engraven on stones was Glorious (Moses’ face shown) This included the ten commandments! But ... New Testament more glorious! Minds blinded as long as remain in Old Testament. Col.2:4 = When Christ died on the Cross, the Old Testament CEASED AS the law of God for man today!

3} Hebrews 8:6-7 But now hath he obtained a ministry the more excellent, by so much as he is also the mediator of a better covenant, which hath been enacted upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then would no place have been sought for a second.

Old Testament “at fault” (i.e., could not remove sin)

Christ Obtained a More Excellent Ministry

Christ Is Mediator of Better Covenant Established upon Better Promises

3} Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

What we have learned so far

The Old Testament is Not our law for today, But we can Learn from it! Today God speaks to us through His Son! (Heb.1:1-3; 2:1-3).

4} Hebrews 1:1-3 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

5} Hebrews 2:1-3 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

6} 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

7} 2 Peter 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

8} Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

What we have learned so far

The Old Testament is Not our law for today, But we can Learn from it! Today God speaks to us through His Son.  We must do everything He tells us to do; we must have authority from Him for all we do.
